In the throes of the pandemic, Beringea saw an opportunity to switch things up and adapt their working environment in their London office. Employing the helping hand of architecture firm Mowat & Company, the company set about designing a new office space where wellbeing and collaboration take centre stage. The goal was to create a space that would allow employees to feel a sense of calm and belonging during an anxious period – whether they’re working in the office, at home or in the sister office in the US.
“The project is not about nervously ‘going back’ to the office,” says Alex Mowat, Director at Mowat & Company. “It is about confidently ‘going forward’ into a new period of time where calmness, flexibilty, equality and health are the priorities.”
The first thing you see as you enter the office is Beringea’s circular board room, crafted in natural oak. Inspired by Quaker meeting rooms, the circular shape of the room encourages conversation and collaboration. It feels bright, light and earthy, setting the tone for the rest of the office.
Towering glass walls and wooden accents form a stark contrast to the three-and-a-half-meter high green hedge that spans the entire length of the office, bringing the outside in. Introducing elements of nature, such as greenery and natural wood, was a top priority for the architects, in an effort to enhance wellbeing.
At the London office, working spaces are varied and flexible. The team can opt to meet or mingle in the high-backed armchairs, at the bar, at the open-plan hot desks or in one of the many meeting pods scattered throughout the office.
Fritz Hansen pieces add a thoughtful and timeless aesthetic to the space. In one of the meeting rooms, the Pluralis™ table by Kasper Salto sits alongside a set of the iconic Series 7™ chairs by Arne Jacobsen. Both pieces are characterised by their understated design, elegance and uncompromising quality, adding a whole new level of functionality to the workspace.
The Series 7™ bar stool features in the café area – its unique shape displays character without overpowering the eye. The kitchen itself has been handcrafted in natural oak wood and serves as a meeting point for the team throughout the day.
