Tivoli Friheden – Brasserie

Aarhus, Denmark

At Tivoli Friheden amusement park in the heart of Aarhus, the Backstage brasserie has recently opened its doors, offering a marriage of great food and social relationships. Here, the concept is centred around social dining, where intimacy, unique gastronomic experiences and good conversations are the focal point.

The restaurant, which holds space for up to 250 people, has been crafted in an industrial style with high ceilings, giant floor-to-ceiling windows, and cement features. The décor is sophisticated yet simple – think white rice paper lanterns and minimalist dining tables complemented by Arne Jacobsen’s Grand Prix™ chair.

At the bar, a rich blue subway tile serves as a stylish feature wall. The open kitchen allows guests the opportunity to be involved in the entire process, from ordering to serving, as skilled chefs prepare food in full view of the restaurant.

The Grand Prix chair was chosen in oak as the statement piece for the dining area. With its clean lines and high degree of comfort and functionality, the chair showcases a timeless design that complements the building’s raw materials and will look beautiful for many years to come. Durable, flexible and easy to stack and move, the chair was the obvious choice for the brasserie.

The Grand Prix chair was introduced by Fritz Hansen at the Designers’ Spring Exhibition at the Danish Museum of Art & Design in 1957. Later that year, the chair was displayed at the Triennale in Milan where it received the Grand Prix, the finest distinction of the exhibition. The celebrated chair comes in both a steel or wood base and can be personalised through a series of colours, wood types and upholstery.
