Baden, Austria Designed by Moser Architects

Much like home

The new Thermenregion Baden Provincial Hospital is designed with human beings in focus. The ambition of the hospital is to deliver outstanding medical care in a sustainable environment. Sustainable in both the working and patient climate as in the use of materials and furnishing.

An outstanding medical care in using first-class medical technology supported by a nature-inspired hospital environment that eases patient stress.

The design solution to meet the high ambitions is to create a hospital with a homey familiar atmosphere. This is done by reducing classical clinical furniture and technical solutions to the necessary minimum and enhancing solutions which could be found at home.

The hospital is planned with three individual buildings grouped around a central entrance to help the patient's wayfinding. Natural materials are used in the finishes of the buildings thus integrating nature in the interior and tying together the green outside spaces with the interior spaces.

Central for the scheme is that every solution from flooring to furniture is of high quality to create an improved wellbeing through design. The architects explain their approach like this: "In designing this hospital, we paid special attention to using stylistic elements that will ring a familiar, homey note for clients. This was motivated by the intention of foregoing the sterile “hospital” character for a feel-good atmosphere, where patients are above all viewed as human beings".
